Technology:



Membrane



At the heart of GORE-TEX® fabric is an extremely thin membrane thats durably waterproof, windproof, and breathable. It has over 9 billion pores per square inch.



Breathable



The pores are 700 times larger than a water vapor molecule which means perspiration passes right through. This is what makes the membrane breathable.



Waterproof



The microscopic pores on the membrane are 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet, which means water droplets Can´t´ pass through



Windproof



The volume of air that passes through one cubic foot of fabric in one minute (cfm) is 1.0 or less, creating a truly windproof membrane.



Laminates



To construct a GORE-TEX® laminate (fabric), we bond the GORE-TEX® membrane between high-performance lining and shell textiles.



Constructions



Multiple GORE-TEX® membranes have been developed for specific end uses to ensure that the finished laminate will provide durable waterproof, windproof, and breathable protection.



Durably Water Repellent



All GORE-TEX® garments have an ultra-thin treatment called DWR - a durable water repellent polymer - applied to the outermost fabric layer so that water beads up and rolls off rather than soaks in.



Seam Sealing



For durable waterproofness and liquid resistance, our products rely on GORE-SEAM TAPE. The unique tape, backed by reliable Gore equipment and know-how, ensures that every seam and tiny stitch hole is sealed.

13 MM TAPE



The use of a 13 mm wide waterproof tape instead of the usual 20 mm wide tape on the main seams allows us to use less tape and glue and thus achieve extra breathability: we have evaluated this gain to be 7% to 10%.



This very difficult operation requires high performance equipment and genuine know-how to ensure a perfect seal on our Gore-Tex protections.
